Cleveland Browns 1990 Season

  • Former Browns Defensive Back Jim Shofner 1958-1963 takes over for Bud Carson as head coach in the tenth game of the season
  • The Browns defense allows an NFL-leading and team record 462 points to be scored against it
  • Eric Metcalf returns a kickoff 98 yards against the N.Y. Jets and 101 yards against the Houston Oilers
  • Eric Metcalf leads the NFL with 1052 yards on kickoff returns
  • On October 16, 1990 Bernie Kosar throws an interception to
    Deion Sanders of the Atlanta Falcons. He would not throw another one for 308 consecutive passes which sets an NFL record. On November 10, 1991 the streak comes to an end when Ben Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles intercepts Kosar
  • Ozzie Newsome retires after the 1990 season as the Browns all-time receptions leader with 662 catches and reception yardage with 7,980 yards
  • Four months after the 1990 season ends the Browns draft UCLA safety Eric Turner with the #2 pick overall in the 1991 NFL draft
