Cleveland Browns 2005 Season

  • Former assistant coach for the New York Giants, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and assistant coach in six Super Bowls, Romeo Crennel replaces Butch Davis as the Browns head coach
  • With Kelly Holcomb signing with the Buffalo Bills and the release of Jeff Garcia the Browns trade a fourth round draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for former Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl quarterback Trent Dilfer to mentor rookie QB Charlie Frye
  • On May 1, 2005 Tight End Kellen Winslow, Jr. suffers an injury while riding a motorcycle which is a violation of his contract with the Browns, He misses the entire 2005 season but the Browns decide not to recoup any contract money from Winslow
  • Former Denver Broncos running back Reuben Droughns has 309 rushing attempts breaking Jim Brown's team record of 305 attempts set in the 1961 season. Droughns rushes for 1,232 yards becoming the first Browns running back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season in twenty years since Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner did it in 1985
  • Baltimore Ravens waive their 2005 sixth round draft choice Oregon State University quarterback Derek Anderson. The Browns claim him off waivers but he does not play during the 2005 season
  • Josh Cribbs' rookie season
  • Braylon Edwards' rookie season
